Fort Dobbs State Historic Site: A Part of North Carolina's Colonial History
Fort Dobbs State Historic Site, located in Statesville, North Carolina, is a fort that was built to defend against the Cherokee Indians. British troops first garrisoned the fort during the Revolutionary War, but it became an American outpost later. Fort Dobbs has also become one of North Carolina's most popular historic sites, and many people enjoy visiting this place for its rich colonial history. The original fortification was built to protect settlers from attacks by Native Americans during the war between Britain and France for control over the territory now known as America. The Fort Dobbs State Historic Site is a North Carolina treasure. Not only does it contain artifacts about the colonial history of our state, but you can also visit the reconstructed stockade that was built in 1756 during an Indian uprising called "the war after the seven years." The site includes exhibits inside both buildings and outdoor displays as well. It's free to explore this historic location so bring your family on down!
